Though Mules and Horses are different species, they are able to breed and produce
either mules or hinnys offspring. A mule is the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse
and a hinny is from a male horse and a female donkey. Mules are much more likely to
occur. Being a cross between two species leaves all male mules and most femal mules
infertile. Despite being steril, mules are still very useful. They've gained
the strength and endurance of their donkey parent but also the speed and
intelligence of their horse parent. Their appearance depends greatly on what kind of
horse their mother was. A donkey bred with a draft breed can produce a very large
mule and a donkey bred with an appaloosa can produce a spotted mule. They are fine
trail riding and working animals.
